Paul Vane Livingston Papers, 1951-1969.

The Paul Vane Livingston Papers include photographs, publications from Livingston's Birch Hill Press, correspondence, newsclippings, photographic negatives, maps, and certificates. Livingston was employed with the U.S. Army, Corps of Engineers and many of the photographs are views of construction activities, construction sites, and construction equipment in various Alaskan locations. Livingston also had a private press and many of the manuscript materials in the collection represent issues of newsletters and other items printed and distributed by Livingston. In addition, Livingston was a mountaineer and many of the photographs and some of the correspondence in the collection reflect this interest. Other photographic subjects include views of the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus, views taken during Livingston's travels around Alaska and the Yukon Territory, and events and activities in the Fairbanks region.

Paul Vane Livingston was born in 1919. He worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and came north to Alaska in 1958. Livingston worked in Port Moller, on Shemya Island, in Clear, and in the Fairbanks area. Livingston founded the Birch Hill Press, printing and distributing newsletters and other publications.
